2. Displacement is change in position with direction


DISTANCE describes how far an object travels in a set time.

DISPLACEMENT describes the final distance AND direction off the object from it's starting point.

Displacement is a VECTOR quantity because it has position and direction.
Distance is a SCALAR quantity because it has no direction.

Activity 1:  Map to Home 
Go to google maps and annotate the map with their route from home to school.
Google will calculate the distance travelled via bus, car, walking etc.
Students can use the Google measurement tool to work out displacement distance.
